Naomi Tsukamoto

Associate

Naomi runs the firm's citizenship cases, from the first look at your record to the oath ceremony.

Naomi's family has lived on the Eastside for four generations, since the years when Boyle Heights was home to Japanese, Mexican and Jewish families on the same blocks. Before joining the firm she clerked at a legal aid office in Little Tokyo.

Naomi works in English and Japanese. When she meets a family that's more at ease in Spanish, Azucena or Ezequiel joins the meeting.

How Naomi reads a citizenship file

Naomi starts with the dates. She lines up every trip abroad, every address and every tax year against the five years the application asks about, and looks for the gap that an officer would find.

Most files have none. When one does, she tells you plainly whether to wait, to explain it, or to apply now.
