Questions

What families ask us

If your question isn't here, call us. A person answers, in English or Spanish.

Can a notario help me with my case?

In much of Latin America a notario is a lawyer. Here, a notary public can only witness a signature, and can't advise you on immigration or file your papers. Always ask whether the person helping you is a licensed attorney or an accredited representative, and ask to see it in writing.

Will talking to you put me at risk?

No. What you tell us is confidential, and a consultation with a lawyer isn't reported to immigration or to anyone else.

Do you work with people outside Los Angeles?

Yes. Most immigration matters are federal, so we can help wherever you live. Meetings can be by video.

What if I got a letter from immigration I don't understand?

Call us the same day and have the letter in front of you. Some letters carry short deadlines, and the date is usually on the first page.

Can you help if I have a case in immigration court?

We can review your file and tell you where you stand. If your case needs a court defense lawyer outside our office, we'll say so plainly and give you names.

Do I have to bring my whole family?

For a first consultation, the person filing or the person the case is about is enough. If someone else needs to hear the explanation, bring them along.

Can you send me everything in Spanish?

Yes. Letters, plans and reminders can come in Spanish. Government forms are in English, and we'll explain them line by line.

Do you charge to answer a question on the phone?

No. A short call to see whether we can help costs nothing. Advice on your case comes at the consultation.
